going beyond the podcast
Having just one podcast would make us very limited. That's why homo academicus is expanding through listening clubs and the dialogues generated in these spaces based on the resources you find here on this page.

Time management:
What if my day had
48 hours?
Have you ever wished your day had 48 hours? Or missed a class to study for a test in another subject? Or thought that you are very bad at managing your time and its demands? Well, all of this happens quite often to most people who are in undergraduate or graduate courses! Time management in academic life is our topic today! Take some time to reflect with us!
Pilot:
What is this homo academicus?
Welcome to Homo Academicus! In this first meeting, our host, Alejandra Ortiz, will explain a little more about what Homo Academicus is and why it is not just a podcast! Here, we invite you to reflect and imagine an even better university, where we can research, create and seek solutions to the complexities of the planet and society.
Episode 1 //
The unspoken rules of university
How do I sign up for this course? Who should I talk to? Where can I find information about classes, projects, and writing rules? After all, should I ask to go to the bathroom or not? The academic community is full of rules that are not stated, but that will be imposed upon you as soon as you arrive. And how do you deal with all of this? In this very first episode, we will talk a little about the new things we encounter when we enter university and how to deal with them!

Episode 6 //
I give up!
You must have heard at some point in your life that people who give up are not hard-working, have no determination or commitment. But is that really true? Is leaving something aside the same as giving up in all circumstances? Or can we better call it a course adjustment? Today, in our last conversation of the season, we will be talking about the giving ups that permeate our lives! So if you have ever felt bad about giving up or just thinking about it, come listen to “I Give Up!” before deciding whether you are going to pick that bucket back up!
Episode 3 //
Violence at university: the bruises are not on the resume
Sometimes we want to believe that university is a place free from many of the problems of our society, right? But we know that this is not the case. Violence is one of those problems that impacts people in academia in different ways, but often in a very striking way. Today we are going to have this difficult but very important conversation to reflect on how we can stop reproducing violence and how to support those who suffer from it. Let's think about this?

Community: One swallow does not make a summer, but can it do research?
Most people in undergraduate courses have found themselves struggling to learn a subject alone, right? And in graduate school, it's even worse! But does it always have to be like this? Or can sharing knowledge be beneficial? Today we're going to talk about the loneliness of an academic career, its potential drawbacks, and alternatives to overcome it. One swallow doesn't make a summer, and we believe that research doesn't either.
Episode 5 //
Academic writing: Oh my goodness, academic writing
We are sure that at some point you have asked someone or something to help you with something that is part of the life of every undergraduate or graduate student... the infamous academic writing! This happens because although someone who is in academia knows how to write, academic writing has its own challenges and awakens specific fears and concerns, which we are generally not taught to deal with. If you identify with this to some extent, stay with us! This conversation will bring you some good insights!
