our history
Homo academicus is a project funded by the John Templeton Foundation and seeks to raise awareness among academics that it is not right to live this important vocation with so much pain and loneliness. We want to inspire people to seek other ways of experiencing university.
To this end, HA emerges as a community effort that unites people from different countries, areas of knowledge and different skills, such as writing, editing, translation, design and research.
Think of HA as more than just the episodes you can access on streaming platforms, because our goal is to empower people to form listening clubs in their own contexts to strengthen and create support networks for academics. HA also includes resources we have developed for the themes of each episode.
We also want HA to reflect the complexity of the region, the university, and academia, so we are aware that the episodes will have certain gaps or perspectives that will not be shared by everyone we reach. This is why listening clubs are so important: so that the topics can be brought to the ground in each reality and thought about there. In addition, we are committed to the effort of also using the blog to bring some divergent and/or complementary views on the topics covered, because we believe that this will achieve the primary goal: to dialogue for the common good of the academic community, so that it can well serve the society and the planet.
team
Our team includes a large group of people from many different countries to whom we are deeply grateful. These are people who worked on the scripts, translations, recordings and also on the development of resources. On the resources page of each episode you can see the full description of who worked on it. But we would like to highlight here some people who played a fundamental role in the gestation and development of what you now know as homo academicus.
